We are here

Mullumbimby the place to be!

This is a satellite  picture of the area we are staying in
It is on the edge of the worlds largest known volcano caldera
It last erupted over 23 million years ago

This is what the roads are like in this area
one of 5 river crossings
4WD rules!

Big weekend sight seeing

On Saturday we went out for a drive to find some waves for Hannes
our drive took  us through some interesting places,
we stopped at Seven Mile beach
accessed by a long winding dirt road through a jungle!
well it wasn't really a jungle but it definitely looked like one :)

Sunday was market day again,
we went to Bangalow, which has the biggest market in the area
It was full of exciting, wonderful, strange, vibrant and scented salls
Laura got a hippy skirt, which she was very pleased about :)

There was also a small field of magic mushrooms...

We also saw many different musicians dotted through out the maze of stalls

On the drive home we went the scenic way,
from our vantage point you can see Byron Bay
(which is on the right poking out into the sea)

We made our way up in to the hills to a place called Minyon Falls
It was a fantastic view, the waterfall had a drop of 100m

Oh and by the way we sold our car to get this...
not sure how we will strap the surf board on tho :)

Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice Festival
in a Steiner/Waldorf school

All the kids were dressed up in different colors
and armed with lanterns

Not sure about these two fellas, but
i think it should represent the light witch is
rising again

and then the finale of the show.
They let fly a kind of an hot air balloon
to symbolize the sun

After watching the balloon flying high up in the sky
we finally could do what we came for
A BINGE!!

Up to the goldcoast

After two weeks living in the forest we headed north
to have a look at Australians No.1 holiday destination.

The Goldcoast and its famous Surfers Paradise Beach

With no surfers on the beach or in the water

But skyscrapers allover the place

More exploring

While Laura had a little paddle with the kayak up the river
i explored a little waterfall a bit further down stream.
I think next time (it should be around midday)
i will bring a towel and have a cold shower :)

But the best thing i found was at the bottom of the waterfall!

And no its not a turtle its a terrapin
i could get really close as you can see

Motivated from this discovery we then found a little fairy tale forest

The flying koala

So after our hard days work earning a little money
we went for a walk to burn off our chippy lunch...
we have wanted to see a koala since we arrived but had not caught a glimpse
Seconds after Hannes said it would be nice if we saw a koala today
suddenly a branch fell from a tree not far ahead
falling way to fast for just a branch, as we soon found out it had a koala attached to it!
The koala hit the ground with a loud thump
before it dashed up the closest tree to a safe height to recover from its short flight
That has got to beat Newton and his silly apple!

A day at the farmers market

Today we went to Mullumbimby farmers market
Mullumbimby means small round hill, their biggest hill is 308 meters
It was a small market but packed with yummy fruits and veg
and even live music while you shop!

The people of mullumbimby can be rather unusual characters as you can see...

Can he fix it?
Hannes the builder can!

Triple x

And so our next chapter in the adventure begins!
We finally have a car, four wheels to call our own :)
Its a 4WD, Subaru station wagon, with cruse control which is the next best
invention after a dish washer and the washing machine

Ta Da!
Check out our number plate...

Rainy Sunday

First really long drive on the wrong side of the road.
Was really fun, confusing in the beginning though

Rainy Sunday surf at lennox head.
On good days this wave runs for 500 meters.

Below is an example of a strange  Australian tree that grows its own supports...
Even with all the rain we had a fab day exploring some of the local area along the coast
We even had fish and chips (well Laura did) by the sea!
Not as good as an English chippy but it was ok :)

First Snake

so what happened
we're still at the same place in mullum!
Working a lot as you can see hannes is trying to maneuver
this overloaded wheelbarrow

We have visited the beaches in the famous Byron Bay
and spent 35 dollars for sushi, yeah it was really good sushi

The surf is good but super crowded
have to look for a more remote spot
But we're still looking for a car, hard to find one
with a budget around $1100

And finally we've seen our first SNAKE
according to our host it was a small one

cant wait to see a big one :)
