Bali Drive...

Bike ride around the local area

Ok well it sounds like it is a fab thing to do, doesn't it? Rent a bike and have a drive through some of the other towns and look at their beaches.
Well let me tell you this.. it wasn't at all a calm relaxing experience! They drive on the left like in the UK but the similarity ends there, the only rule I can work out is that there is no rules! Apart from mostly trying to drive on the left side of the road! Every one just pushes and shoves people on bikes in cars.. who comes first rides first, there is no other right of way! It has got to have been one of the most nerve racking road experiences i have ever had in my life, and i was glad Hannes was the one driving. It wasnt all bad tho after i got over the initial shock, I could enjoy the view which was actually rather enjoyable.

Bali Thoughts

Traditional Bali Food

Alright……..Bali…hhhmmmm
I think Bali doesn’t really belong to Indonesia, well lets say south Bali ok.
I’ve seen local boys talking English to each other; I’ve seen a Vienna coffee
a Rock Star Café a Starbucks even a Mc Donalds and non of them sell
traditional Indonesian coffee, hhhmmmm probably that’s why they brought
those coffees to Bali. (a typical indo coffee comes with a lot off coffee gunk
approximately the half off the cup)
Well what else?
The prices in the tourist bars, cafes and restaurants are ridiculous compared to
the prices in the local warungs (shop)
We’ve tried a few, not many to be honest, and it was mostly disappointing for
my taste. Not spicy small portion and way too expansive. For example:
A fried rice with veggies, no meat no fish, in a tourist rest. ca. 40 000 rupees
If you buy a bowl full of rice with veggies, piece of meat and a piece of fish
in a local shop you pay around 15 000 to 20 000 rupees and its tasty.
The next thing is, which I recently read in one off Balis english news papers,
that Bali has the highest rate off suicide in Indonesia.
In Austria it’s the region around Kitzbuehl with the most suicides in a year.
And still without money I wouldn’t be here and enjoy the hospitality of the Indonesian people and of course their waves.

Bali Adventure

While in Kuala Lumpur, Hannes had a quick look at our travel map to make sure we were in the right place, and to develop our next plan in the detour as we were still without a travel visa for Australia. With out the map Im sure we would have been lost by now :) Thanks to katja for the help ;)
Just as a note.. if you dont have to travel with Air Asia then I would say use another airline... it was cramped and there was no in flight entertainment... after 12 and a half hours was a very long time when you run out of a book to read!! although it was a cheep flight so not overly surprised. On a positive note... I (laura) have the first stamps in my passport! and that for me is a rather exciting experience :D

Small but hmmm yummy!

The Beach is loverly the water is really warm and there is plenty of people watching to be done. There are locals constantly trying to get you to buy something from sunglasses to watches and so on and they are all 'very good price' :) but they are friendly enough.
